⚙️⏱️ How To Mutate a Pet in Grow a Garden (Step-by-Step Guide)
Mutating your pets in Grow a Garden is fairly easy. First, make sure you meet the following requirements to start a Pet Mutation:
- Pet Level: 50 or higher
- Sheckles Needed: 500M
- Time: 1 hour
Once you’ve met the requirements, grab your pet and head over to the Pet Mutations Machine, which is located beside the Pet Eggs Shop. Interact with the machine to submit your pet, then select “Start Mutation,” which will cost you 500,000,000 Sheckles.
The Mutation Machine will activate, and a 1-hour timer will begin. If you don’t want to wait, you can skip the timer instantly by spending 49 Robux. Once the timer ends, interact with the machine again to claim your newly Mutated Pet.
Once mutated, your pet will receive brand-new abilities and a cool new appearance, but it will also reset back to level 1.
🐶🧬 Pet Mutations Overview and Why You Should Mutate
Similar to how weather and events add mutations to crops, Mutated Pets also have a chance to apply similar effects. Currently, there are 13 different types of pet mutations, and each one has a percentage chance that determines its rarity.
Take the “Windy” Pet Mutation, for example. A pet with the Windy Mutation has a 20 to 30% chance of adding the “Windstruck” effect to a nearby fruit. This means you no longer have to wait for Windy or Gale weather conditions to get this mutation.
Mutating a pet also increases its value based on the rarity of its mutation. As of now, you cannot stack mutations. Applying a new mutation to an already mutated pet will override the previous one.
It’s also worth noting that mutating a pet will reset its level to 1, which lowers the pet’s efficiency to its default level. However, it will gain a new mutation effect. Your pet will still keep its default trait, and the new mutation effect will be added on top of that.
You can also buy Grow a Garden pets from our store that come with pre-applied mutations at awesome prices. Buy a Grow a Garden raccoon and get your favorite pet with your desired mutation instantly without any hassle.

1. Leveling Up Pets Faster in Grow a Garden
One of the biggest challenges players face when trying to mutate pets is getting them to level 50, and yes, it can get pretty tedious. Follow these tips to speed up the leveling process:
Always Keep an Eye on the Hunger Bar
Pets will only age if their hunger bar is not empty. Click the arrow on the right side of your screen to easily manage and feed your pets. Before logging off, make sure to fill the hunger bar of all your pets, since pets can continue to grow even while you’re offline in Grow a Garden.
Explore New Craftables and Gear That Can Help Level Up Your Pets
As part of the Pet Mutations update, new craftables and gear have been introduced to speed up the pet leveling process. Small Treat, Medium Treat, and Level Up Lollipop are new items that directly help increase a pet’s age. Depending on your pet’s passive trait, you can also use items like Small Toy and Medium Toy to boost XP gain.
Use Pets With XP Passive Traits for Faster Leveling
Focus on pets with passive XP traits if you want to reach level 50 quickly. Starfish is a common pet that gains additional XP per second, while Iguanodon is a legendary pet that provides bonus XP to all Dinosaur pets in your garden. Other pets that help level up faster are Capybara, Ostrich, Dilophosaurus, Owl, and Sea Turtle.
2. Unlock All Pet Upgrades to Speed Up Progress
There are both free and paid methods to get pet upgrades. If you can afford it, get these upgrades ASAP and start playing more efficiently. Click on the “Shop” button on the left side of your screen and scroll down to the “Pets” section to find these upgrades.
If you’re F2P, check out these free methods to unlock all the pet upgrades:
Trade Your Pets for Extra Pet Equipment Slots
Players start with just 3 pet equipment slots, which limits how many pets can be active in your garden. To level up a pet, it must be active, so trade in pets you no longer need to increase your active pet slots. You can get up to 5 extra slots for free using this method.
Trade Your Pets for Extra Egg Equipment Slots
Just like pet equipment slots, having more egg equipment slots means faster progression. So, make sure to trade any pets you no longer need to increase the number of eggs you can actively hatch in your garden. You can get up to 5 extra free slots this way.
Trade Your Pets for Extra Pet Inventory Capacity
While this might not be a problem early on, players will eventually run out of pet inventory space. When that happens, you can trade pets to unlock more inventory slots. You can get up to 25 extra slots through this method.
