EA FC 25 was first launched back in September 2024 in two main versions: FC 25 Standard Edition or Ultimate Edition. The Ultimate Edition includes a variety of bonuses and extra features, including some FC 25 points to start you on your journey to total victory in the ever-popular Football Ultimate Team mode.
However, the Ultimate Edition also comes with a hefty price tag, and many gamers wonder if it’s still worth buying at this stage of EA’s release cycle. You do get some nice FC points, but that’s not the only way to get ahead in the game. You can always hire an FC 25 booster to unlock fresh content and help you catch up with friends who bought FC 25 on release day!
In this post, I’ll discuss the pros and cons of buying EA FC 25 Ultimate Edition, show off the perks and bonuses, and discuss whether they have retained their value in the six months since release.
How Much More Does EA FC 25 Ultimate Edition Cost?
This will be the biggest sticking point for most players since the price difference is extremely high. The Standard Edition of FC 25 retails for $69.99 USD on PlayStation, XBOX, and PC, while the Ultimate Edition costs an eye-watering $99.99 USD on the same platforms.
That’s a $30 USD price difference – almost 43% more than the cost of the Standard Edition!
Nintendo Switch players get a bit of a discount, with the Standard Edition costing $59.99 USD and the Ultimate Edition costing $79.99. There is no information available about why the Switch version is cheaper, but perhaps Nintendo put their finger on the scales a bit to help their customers.
FC 25 does go on sale sometimes, including a current sale on the Epic Games Store that lasts until April 9, 2025. The lowest recorded price for Standard Edition is $20.99 USD, while the Ultimate Edition sometimes goes as low as $39.99 USD.
That’s a much better deal, but even on sale, the price difference between the two editions is still pretty steep.
What Bonuses Does EA FC 25 Ultimate Edition Offer?
If you’re willing to cough up the extra $30 USD for Ultimate Edition, you get a few bonuses that might make it worth it. Here’s a full list of every bonus included with FC 25 Ultimate Edition:
- Every “bonus” item included in the Standard Edition
- Up to 7 days of early access to the full version of the game (pre-orders only)
- Early access Rush rewards (pre-orders only)
- 4600 FC points (or 3850 FC points for Switch players)
- One Player Evolution slot
- Untradeable Ultimate Team Hero Player Item (pre-orders only)
- Untradeable FUT Player Item for FC 24 (previous version, pre-orders only)
EA is arguably not being fair or honest when they claim that the Standard Edition “bonuses” are actually bonuses, since they’re included in both versions. If you ignore the marketing hype, they’re just part of the game, because you can’t purchase a version that doesn’t include them.
Are Those Bonuses Still Valuable Today?
EA’s marketing approach for the Ultimate Edition has changed a bit since launch. They emphasize the additional FC points you get, but don’t even mention any of the other bonuses — which makes sense when you have to consider that they don’t really have much value anymore.
EA initially launched FC 25 Ultimate Edition pre-orders at a much higher price of $129.99 USD. That feels like far too much for any video game unless you’re a die-hard fan who wants to support EA, and even the reduced $99.99 USD price still feels too expensive.
Since most of the perks are no longer available, much of the ‘bonus excitement’ has worn off. We can always hope that EA will choose to do something more adventurous with the Ultimate Edition, but there is still a case to be made for the FC points that are included.
FC points are available for sale in every digital marketplace that sells the game, although the prices can vary a little from region to region. They’re also slightly more affordable when you purchase larger quantities.
EA made it a little tricky to work out the exact value of the 4600 FC point bonus, but it works out to a cost savings of around $9 for PlayStation, XBOX, and PC players. You can buy 5900 points for $49.99 USD, which means that 4600 points are worth about $39 USD.
For Switch players who get a reduced price and a reduced FC point bonus, the 3850 point bonus is worth around $32.50 USD. That means that even though it’s a slightly lower point bonus, the deal is actually a little better for Switch players, since they save around $12.50 instead of just $9.
Who Should Buy FC 25 Ultimate?
At this point, it’s probably not worth buying the Ultimate Edition unless you want to save a little on your FC points. If you’re already planning to buy FC points, then you should definitely consider buying the Ultimate Edition, since 4600 FC points is worth more than the extra $30 (or even the extra $20 for Switch players).
Of course, buying the game during one of EA’s massive 70% off sales makes the value proposition a bit more favorable, but many players would argue that it’s still not worth the extra cost. Smart FC 25 players know they can get cheap FC 25 coins to gain an advantage in FUT, which might make the extra FC points a little less appealing.
The Final Word on EA FC 25 Ultimate Edition
Most players who post on forums say that the Ultimate Edition isn’t worth the price, especially this late in the game, but they never mention whether they also plan to buy FC points. With most of the original perks now gone, the only way the Ultimate Edition is worth the added cost is if you plan to buy a lot of FC points.
