The Getaway LTM is back, and if it’s your first time playing an extraction mode in Fortnite, trust me, you’ll have a blast. Fortnite first released this LTM in 2018, along with popular skins like Wild Card and The Ace; they were all part of the “High Stakes” event. As part of the v34.10 update, the Getaway mode is back with new weapons and items.

The Getaway LTM: Objective and Different Game Modes
Currently, there are four different modes for the Getaway LTM:
- The Getaway (Build)
- The Getaway Zero Build
- Ranked The Getaway (Build)
- Ranked The Getaway Zero Build
The objective in all these game modes is the same: You must capture a Crystal Llama (Jewel) and extract it in the Getaway Van. There are four Crystal Llamas and three Getaway Vans scattered across the map, meaning there can be a maximum of three winning teams. Two of the vans arrive early in the game, and you get a warning when the last Getaway Van arrives—that will be your final option to extract and win the game.
Note: You can either play this game in duos or squads. Solo and trio modes for the Getaway LTM are unavailable. You can queue alone and select “no fill” to play as a solo.
How to Play the Getaway LTM in Fortnite
First, get your friend to queue for duos or gather your team to play as a squad. This game mode is more fun when played with friends.
Once you open the game, you will see the new Getaway mode right on your screen. If you cannot find it, scroll down until you reach “By Epic.” You will find the Getaway mode here; click on the arrow to view the other game modes created by Epic. Here, you will find ranked and unranked versions of both Build and Zero Build Getaway. Select whichever mode suits your style and queue up!
Winning a game of Getaway is easier than a normal battle royale. If you’re looking for a challenge, I recommend playing the ranked mode.
As soon as the battle bus starts, you will notice the safe zone circle. I recommend dropping in or near the circle since the zone starts closing very early. If you land too far, you won’t make it in time. Once you land, start gearing up and farming materials—most importantly, stock up on brick and metal. The objective in this game mode is to extract the Crystal Llama, not to get eliminations, so focus on the objective.
After a few seconds into the game, the four lockers (safe) that contain the Crystal Llamas will appear across the map. Head to these lockers with your team to retrieve the Llama. It takes a long time to open the locker, but if multiple players attempt to open it simultaneously, the process speeds up. The Llama takes up one slot in your inventory.
Enemies will be notified once you retrieve the Llama, and its location will be visible on their map. Players carrying the Crystal Llama become hotshots, meaning enemies will actively target them. After retrieving the Llama, your primary objective is to get to any of the Getaway Vans and extract. You can find these vans on your map, and each van can only be used once. Enemies are also notified when you’re close to a van while carrying the Crystal Llama.
In the Build Mode, these vans are suspended high in the air with balloons. You must build to reach them for extraction—it takes 3 seconds to extract in Build Mode.
In the Zero Build Mode, the vans hover on the ground. It takes 6 seconds to extract in Zero Build Mode.
Alternatively, you can win a game of The Getaway by eliminating all enemies—if your team is the last one standing, you automatically win the match, even without extracting.

Tips to Win More Games in The Getaway LTM
- Gear up first: Before going for the lockers, make sure you have the right weapons and healing items. Since opening the locker takes a long time, it’s often better to third-party fights and grab the Llama after other teams have done the work.
- Stick together: Teamwork is crucial in this mode. Avoid playing solo, especially when carrying the Llama. If your teammate has the Llama, provide cover and support them until extraction.
- Build smartly: If you’re playing Build Mode, use brick or metal instead of wood to get to the van. Wood structures break too easily. Since it only takes 3 seconds to extract in Build Mode, building 90s with metal is usually enough. However, if there are many enemies nearby, consider building additional layers, like double ramps.
- Use mobility items: Grapplers and rocket drills are available in this mode and are crucial for quick movement. These items help you get in and out of fights, reach Llamas and van locations faster, or chase down enemies carrying the Llamas.
- Watch out for the storm: Unlike the regular Battle Royale, the storm moves quickly in this mode. That’s why I recommend you land in or near the first safe zone. If you’re too focused on fights, you might get eliminated outside the zone with no escape. Always keep an eye on the zone timer and safe zone circle.
Once you implement these strategies, winning The Getaway LTM becomes much easier. If you’re looking for a greater challenge, try becoming the only winner in the entire game. To do this, you’ll need lots of mobility. Track down players carrying the Llamas, eliminate and capture the jewels, and ensure that your team is the last one standing.
Conclusion
While it’s easy to win The Getaway LTM, these victories do not count as Crown Wins. However, this mode provides a large amount of XP, making it perfect for leveling up your Battle Pass.
