GTA System Requirements: Can Your PC Handle It?

GTA System Requirements

Ever since the early days back in 1997, GTA has been a popular title with PC gamers. Fast forward to 2025, and nothing has changed – except that we’re still all a little sad that Rockstar has decided to delay GTA 6 until 2026. We will probably have to wait even longer for a PC release, but we can hope!

There’s a silver lining to that stormcloud, though, since they’ve released the new GTA 5: Enhanced Edition to keep all of us PC GTA fans happy.

But it’s been twelve years since GTA 5 was first released, and the PC gaming world has changed quite a lot since then. In this post, we’ll share all the details about what kind of performance you can expect, whether you meet the basic GTA system requirements, or the recommended ones for optimal gameplay.

GTA System Requirements: Minimum vs. Recommended

If you’ve taken a look at the system requirements for GTA and been confused, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Tech specs can be hard to read!

For every PC game, developers release two sets of requirements: the minimum system requirements necessary to play the game at all, and the recommended requirements for optimal gameplay.

As long as your PC meets the minimum requirements, you’ll be able to play the game, but it won’t look its best. If you meet the recommended requirements, you’ll be able to play the game at reasonably high graphics settings.

Of course, if your PC is a real beast, you can crank the settings all the way up and still get a decent framerate!

GTA 5: Enhanced Edition System Requirements

Enhanced Edition System Requirements

The recent release of GTA 5: Enhanced Edition included a lot of graphical and gameplay improvements, but it’s the graphics improvements that make a huge difference to the system requirements. Both console and PC gaming graphics have improved massively since GTA 5 was first released, and Rockstar wanted to take advantage of all that new power.

Here are the minimum system requirements for GTA 5: Enhanced Edition on PC:

OSWindows 10
ProcessorIntel Core i7-4770 / AMD FX-9590
Memory8 GB
GraphicsNvidia GTX 1630 (4GB) / AMD RX 6400 (4GB)
Storage Space105 GB available
Sound CardDirectX 10 Compatible
Additional RequirementsSSD required

That’s actually pretty respectable for a new game, although keep in mind that you won’t be seeing most of the new graphical improvements if your PC just meets the minimum requirements.

And now for the recommended GTA 5 system requirements for optimal gameplay:

OSWindows 11
ProcessorIntel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Memory16 GB
GraphicsNvidia RTX 3060 (8GB) / AMD RX 6600 XT (8GB)
Storage Space105 GB available
Sound CardWindows Spatial Sound-compatible audio system
Additional RequirementsSSD with DirectStorage-compatibility

That’s a significantly more powerful PC, but it’s almost reasonable for a re-released game.

GTA 5 System Requirements

GTA 5 System Requirements

If your PC isn’t ready to cope with the beefed-up GTA 5 system requirements from the Enhanced Edition, the original edition is still available for sale under the name ‘Grand Theft Auto V: Legacy’. It may not have the latest graphics, but it’s still a great game with countless hours of action-packed mayhem.

Here are the minimum system requirements for GTA 5: Legacy on PC:

OSWindows 10 64-bit
ProcessorIntel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / AMD Phenom 9850
Memory4 GB
GraphicsNvidia 9800 GT (1 GB) / AMD HD 4870 (1GB)
Storage Space120 GB available
Sound CardDirectX 10 compatible

Those GTA 5 system requirements are so low, you might even be able to play it on a Raspberry Pi! Any modern gaming PC should be well past those minimum specs.

Now let’s compare those with the recommended system requirements:

OSWindows 10 64-bit
ProcessorIntel Core i5-3470 / AMD X8 FX-8350
Memory8 GB
GraphicsNvidia GTX 660 (2GB) / AMD HD 7870 (2GB)
Storage Space120 GB available
Sound CardDirectX 10 compatible

That’s still pretty reasonable, and most PC gamers will have much newer hardware.

What We Know About GTA 6 System Requirements

OK, so it’s possible that “know” is too strong a word – “guess” is definitely more appropriate. Since Rockstar Games still hasn’t officially released any details about the GTA system requirements for the next game, we’re working entirely on speculation here.

That being said, we know that the console version of the game will run on current-generation hardware. That means that the PlayStation 5 Pro and XBOX Series X *should* run the game at a playable FPS – or we hope it will, at least. The disastrous console launch of Cyberpunk 2020 made us all realize that console games can still have graphics issues!

We can still assume that the system specs for the current-gen consoles can act as a guide for us to the minimum system requirements for GTA 6 on PC. There aren’t always direct PC comparisons to customized console hardware, but skilled hardware enthusiasts can make some rough guesses.

A number of different GTA system requirements have appeared on various gaming forums and subreddits, shared by users who are eager to play the game. We can’t argue with their excitement, but just remember not to take their guesses as facts.

A Final Word About GTA System Requirements

We know all of the current GTA 5 system requirements, but there’s only speculation about what GTA 6 might require by the time it finally reaches PC. Rockstar always prioritizes console releases first, so it might be quite some time before we get our hands on it. Who knows, we might even be on the next-gen graphics cards by then!

For now, we’ll all have to be satisfied with GTA 5 Enhanced Edition and GTA Online, which should keep us all going until we finally get our hands on GTA 6. If you’re interested in GTA Online, you should check out the U7BUY store to grab some GTA Online money at cheap prices!
