That said, let’s get straight into the list of the best Nintendo Switch games for July!

One Piece Odyssey

The first game on the list is also one of the latest to land on the system this month, One Piece Odyssey. For One Piece fans, this is a quintessential pick-up to dive back into the One Piece universe by revisiting past arcs and meeting familiar characters, all while experiencing a brand-new story.

Simply put, a grand adventure with the colorful Straw Hat Pirates crew, similar to the critically acclaimed Dragon Quest series. Stylistically speaking, anyway.

It’s a JRPG and has a turn-based combat system so it might not be for everyone, but the good (and bad) news is the game is simple to play and doesn’t require too much ‘strategy’ to get through the story.

It’ll take around 30-40 hours to complete the story and around 50 hours to complete everything in the game so it’s a solid chunk of JRPG goodness to dive into. Not the longest JRPG around, but hey, who’s got the time these days, right?

Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure

Next up we have Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure which is one of the top indie titles to release this month. As the name suggests, Arranger is an excellent mesh of puzzle and role-playing mechanics that has you on a conveyor belt of tiles to move around the world.

Combat also takes place using the moving tiles system which makes for a really unique gameplay mechanic we haven’t seen quite yet. It does remind us slightly of the Crypt of the Necrodancer and Cadence of Hyrule games but with its own twist to the formula.

It also has an incredibly vibrant pastel design philosophy that makes the game’s aesthetics pop and distinguishes it from the plethora of indie titles we see every month.

Though the game won’t be for everyone if you’re looking for a cozy pick-up-play style game, Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure is worth checking out.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is a rogue-like action game in which you’ll take the role of the TMNT squad to rescue Master Splinter by the devious Shredder. It follows most recognizable roguelike game tropes like permanent buffs after death, randomized stages, and a variety of powerups every run.

But instead of playing with different weapons like in the King of roguelikes, Hades, here you’ll be able to select any of the 4 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles each with distinct playstyles and mechanics.

Plus, you can also play up to 4-player online co-op so it’s a great title to pick up if you’re looking for something new to play with friends or if you’re just a fan of the radical TMNT universe.

Darkest Dungeon II

The brutal & unforgiving Darkest Dungeon is back with a sequel Darkest Dungeon II and takes what we all love (and hate) about the game and gives it a fresh coat of paint and updated mechanics.

Now instead of making your way through the dungeons to eventually reach the Darkest Dungeon, players will start off with 4 characters aboard the stagecoach as you transport the ‘last flame’ of humanity to overcome the ever-encroaching darkness.

It’s a turn-based roguelike RPG with a distinctively grim art style that now features 3D models and incredibly fantastic environmental designs, character models, and an overhaul to the ‘flatness’ of the original title.

Expect extremely excruciating turn-based combat where you not only battle against enemies and RNG, but also have to manage your party’s relationships, stress levels, permanent upgrades, and endless runs before you can even complete the game once.

Honorable Mention – Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD

Last up we’ve got an Honorable Mention, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, the remake of the 3DS game, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. Now this game actually released in June, but considering it was just a few days before July, we think it just barely squeaks onto the list.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a remake of a past title so it should be a great nostalgia trip for old-school 3DS players.

In the game, you’ll be ghost-bustin’ in Evershade Valley where you’ll find plenty of haunted mansions to explore. You’ll be solving puzzles, suckin’ up ghosts into your trusty vacuum, and utilizing an arsenal of ghost-hunting tools to piece back together the Dark Moon!
