World of Warcraft Midnight Update: WoW Player Housing Comes to Azeroth

World of Warcraft Midnight Update

World of Warcraft is one of the most successful MMOs of all time, spanning over 20 years of expansions and updates. Blizzard has announced an ambitious release cycle for 2025, including the surprise announcement of the Midnight expansion reveal sometime during the Summer months.

In this post, I’ll highlight everything we know about the upcoming Midnight update, including the most significant new feature in years: WoW player housing. If you want to get your WoW toons ready to kick back in style when Midnight launches, you can hire a WoW booster to smooth your way through the grind and look your best in your new home.

When is World of Warcraft: Midnight Coming Out?

Now, before you get too excited about the idea of WoW housing, keep in mind that the Midnight update isn’t going to be available for several months (at least). Blizzard’s official World of Warcraft roadmap indicates that the full reveal for Midnight is planned for Summer 2025, but that still leaves them a lot of room to modify the final release date.

If Blizzard sticks as closely to its yearly release window as possible, that means the Midnight expansion could be released in August 2025, but there is no official release date set.

What to Expect in the WoW: Midnight Update

So far, the details about the actual story content of the Midnight update are pretty thin on the ground. But since it’s the second installment in the WorldSoul Saga, players can expect that the story will continue onwards but not reach any final conclusions before the last installment.

Blizzard did announce a few basic details of the Midnight storyline during the initial reveal for the WorldSoul Saga. In the Midnight expansion, players will return to Quel’Thalas in the old world, which has been invaded by evil forces from the Void. You will reunite the scattered Elven tribes and banish the evil – however, Blizzard has also teased that things might not go as expected.

The WorldSoul Saga is Blizzard’s plan for three full-sized expansions. There are a lot of rumors flying around about how quickly they will be released, with some sources claiming they are aiming for one release per year. But since Blizzard has not officially announced a release date for Midnight, we don’t know if they can maintain that pace.

However, the biggest news about the Midnight update has nothing to do with the WorldSoul Saga itself: WoW player housing is finally coming to Azeroth! Yes, you read that right – after years of wandering, your beloved toons will finally have an in-game place to call home.

A Closer Look at WoW Player Housing Details

Blizzard has shared some interesting details about the player housing system, even though it’s not yet available for playtesting. Before we talk about the specifics, it’s worth pointing out that Blizzard has also shared a very comprehensive, high-level approach to the entire idea of WoW housing.

They’ve outlined three main ideas behind the system that will guide future development. They want to encourage ‘boundless self-expression,’ they want it to be ‘deeply social,’ and they want it to be a ‘long-lasting journey.’ While some of that sounds like marketing fluff, it also sounds like Blizzard is treating this with enough care and attention to make fans happy with the results.

One key detail in those lofty-sounding goals is the part about housing being a ‘long-lasting journey.’ While Blizzard hasn’t gone into much detail, they expect the housing system to evolve and expand with each new WoW update. Hopefully, they won’t restrict themselves to adding a few cheap cosmetics and will make actual improvements based on player feedback.

An example of WoW player housing released by Blizzard

Blizzard has published some videos showing how players can modify and customize their housing decor, which sounds like it’s going to be about as freeform as you could wish for. Basic mode will allow players to style their houses quickly with handy snapping tools, while Advanced mode will let you have complete control over item size, orientation, and position.

One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming player housing system is that it will be accessible and available to every player. You won’t have to save up your hard-earned gold to buy a house or wait for your lucky day in a housing lottery. As Blizzard says, if you want a house, you can have a house. If only that worked in the real world, too!

In addition to giving players easy access to housing to host their friends, WoW player homes will be placed in larger ‘neighborhood’ groups of 50. These groups will be persistent, so you can actually become friends with your neighbors and build a sense of community.

When Midnight releases, there will be Alliance neighborhoods and Horde neighborhoods with different styles. Players can even create their own private neighborhoods to build alongside their guilds, their friends, or anyone else they choose.

Even though you won’t need a mountain of gold to purchase a house, you can still buy WoW gold to spend on mounts, pets, and other in-game gear to match your house. If WoW housing becomes a cozy social mini-game, you’ll want to match your avatar style with your new home!

While the new housing system looks exciting, there’s a lot we still don’t know about how it will work. Blizzard has only shown us how interior spaces work in a single room, but there are plans to allow players to craft their home’s exterior spaces as well.

A Final Word About the Upcoming Update

While Blizzard is usually good about following through on their release plans, a lot can change in a short time. If their quality assurance teams decide the new housing features aren’t quite polished enough, the entire expansion may get delayed. But no matter when it finally comes out, World of Warcraft: Midnight is already one of the most anticipated expansions in the history of WoW!
